SPEND AN HOUR
Moggs Creek, Australia
Thursday 31 October 2013
Part way along the Great Ocean Road is a little bridge across a small creek. The water in this creek is very brown in colour, the result of tannin collected from the vegetation upstream. The sandbank across the mouth of this creek makes the water bank up and finally wind its way into the sea. All in all, a very pretty place to spend an hour taking photos! (760)

TWO FISHERMEN … NO FISH!
Moggs Creek, Australia
Wednesday 30 October 2013
I was down at Eastern View this afternoon and stopped at Moggs Creek on the way home before it got too dark. I came across these two fishermen who were obviously good friends, because they did more talking to each other than serious fishing. We all headed back to our cars at about the same time, so I asked them if they caught anything ... 'no, but we had a few nibbles' was the reply. Wish I had a fish for every time I've heard that from a fisherman! (759)

NOT ANOTHER BEACH … I HEAR YOU SAY!
Bells Beach, Australia
Tuesday 29 October 2013
Yep, it's another one. What can I say, I love taking sunrise photos on our nearby beaches. I hope that someone out there likes me doing it too, otherwise I'm going to have to stop! (758)

GO BACK 100 YEARS
Castlemaine, Australia
Tuesday 29 October 2013
The Castlemaine Railway Station dates back to 1862 when the Melbourne to Bendigo line reached this historic gold mining town.I love old railway stations but lament the fact that most of them that are in daily use have digital clocks and timetables that are not in keeping with the history of the buildings. I know that these things are necessary for the commuters that use the facilities and are in fact demanded by the current generation, but take them away and put a steam train into this scene and you could easily take yourself back more than 100 years. LINKING FLINDERS STREET STATION
Melbourne, Australia
Sunday 27 October 2013
The Southbank (or Yarra) Footbridge is a recent addition to the Yarra River crossings in Melbourne. The bridge stands between Princes Bridge and Sandridge Bridge (a former railway bridge, now another pedestrian bridge). It is the closest footbridge to Federation Square and the Melbourne tourist information office. The Yarra Footbridge links Flinders Street and station with the Yarra Promenade on the Southbank. It is very busy at the rush hour as it is one of the main pedestrian links to the railway station from the Southbank. For tourists and those visiting Melbourne, the Yarra Footbridge offers great views of the Melbourne skyline and easy access to the restaurants and cafes that line the Southbank.' THIS IS ALL WRONG!
Ceres, Australia
Saturday 26 October 2013
There is a lot of things wrong in this image! First and foremost, why has the road got a bend in it? I drive along here frequently and for the life of me I can't understand what happened back in history to cause the original construction of this road to deviate around 'nothing'.As a photographer, I dislike power poles and lines in my shots. There was no way of avoiding them this time, but to make matters worse, some of the poles are crooked and for those of you who have been following my photography, you will know that I like everything to be straight. But on a positive note, my new Canon EF70-300mm lens is wonderful and made this 1+ kilometre stretch of road look very short indeed. A LITTLE COLOUR
Aireys Inlet, Australia
Thursday 24 October 2013
At the end of an early morning photo shoot at 'Aireys' I took a stroll further down the beach after the best of the colour in the sky had gone. This is the view looking further down the Great Ocean Road towards Lorne and although the pinks and oranges have all but disappeared from the clouds, the rock in the foreground adds a little colour. A PORTICO
Ripponlea, Australia
Wednesday 23 October 2013
A portico (from Italian) is a porch leading to the entrance of a building, or extended as a colonnade, with a roof structure over a walkway, supported by columns or enclosed by walls. This idea was widely used in Ancient Greece and has influenced many cultures, including most Western cultures.' [Wikipedia]This portico is at the front entrance of the Ripponlea Mansion in Melbourne. NOT A MOVING CAR TO BE SEEN!
Castlemaine, Australia
Tuesday 22 October 2013
Early morning in the historic country town of Castlemaine, not a moving car to be seen! The Post Office stands against the colourful sunrise and next to other mid 1800's buildings that are abundant in this place. (751)

SUN SIGN
Point Impossible, Australia
Monday 21 October 2013
It's not often that you see a sign, right in the middle of a beach, but this one at Point Impossible is. It indicates the start of the nude beach (which I didn't know before I arrived), a place that a photographer (with his camera) should never go. It was 6 o'clock in the morning, and very cold at that, so I thought I would be ok, after all why should nude bathers have all of the scenic spots to themselves? As I thought, there wasn't a soul on the beach, so I couldn't be accused of being a pervert! (750)

LOW TIDE
Point Impossible, Australia
Sunday 20 October 2013
It is sometimes nice to see what is normally underwater when the tide is low. The rocks and plant matter are nice and shiny because they are still wet and if the sun is in the right place and time, everything has a wonderful glow as it reflects the colourful sky. (749)

I'M NOT QUITE GETTING IT
Barrabool Hills, Australia
Sunday 20 October 2013
A late afternoon shot of my favourite area of rural land, the Barrabool Hills. It is just outside of Geelong and I've tried many times to take an image of this area to reflect the way I feel about it, but I'm still not quite getting it. I guess it gives me a good chance to go back again and again until I find the right location and lighting! (748)

FANTASTIC CONTRAST
Point Roadknight, Australia
Friday 18 October 2013
The rocks at Point Roadknight rise from the smooth sandy beach, providing a fantastic contrast, particularly at sunrise. I hope you aren't getting sick of seeing beach shots ... I've posted a lot recently and still have a few more to go. (747)

THE CROOKED VERANDA
Maldon, Australia
Thursday 17 October 2013
I was walking past this store in the historic town of Maldon and had to stop and take a photo, not because of its age, but because of the unusual veranda, that didn't have posts on one side and the corner was on an angle that looked like one side was falling down. This photo looks like the image is distorted, but it is how it actually was. (746)

OVER THE DUNES

Heading back from an early morning beach shoot, I stopped while walking over the dunes to look at the scene and thought this wasn't a bad view either. (745)

OUR AMAZING PARLIAMENT HOUSE
Canberra, Australia
Tuesday 15 October 2013
Australia's National Parliament building is one of the worlds most beautiful buildings. It is built into the top of a hill, so much of it can be walked over. A very large flag pole sits atop of the central skylight and the front of the building (shown here) is cut away from the hill to produce a huge courtyard with water features.I hope you get a chance to visit our capital city and our amazing parliament house. SO DIFFERENT TO THE OTHERS
Melbourne, Australia
Monday 14 October 2013
I sometimes look at architecture and wonder what the creators were thinking … not in a bad way, but what were they trying to say with their design. Melbourne has many different bridges over the Yarra River and I guess the designer of this bridge knew that it would be so different to the others that photographers would love to take a shot of it. They guessed right! (743)

ALMOST MISSED IT
Torquay, Australia
Sunday 13 October 2013
I took a quick drive down to Torquay this morning to catch the sunrise. On the way down I was in a bit of a panic, knowing that I left 20 minutes late and watching the beautiful colours developing in the sky. I arrived just as the best was finishing but managed this shot. (742)

NOT MONET'S GARDEN
Riponlea, Australia
Saturday 12 October 2013
This image was taken at the wonderful gardens in the grounds of Riponlea Mansion. While not Monet's Garden, the reflections of the walking bridge over the man made lake provide a similar view … sans the lily pads and the beautiful French light (it's really nothing like Monet's Garden!). (741)

DEFIANT ROCKS
Barwon Heads, Australia
Saturday 12 October 2013
I wonder why these rocks are still here, with the relentless wave action hitting them at high tide, but they stand there defiant. Perhaps if I visit this spot again in 10 years they will have submitted to the inevitable? (740)

SOFT PINK LIGHT
Port Fairy, Australia
Friday 11 October 2013
Every now and then a sunset will give off a beautiful soft pink light, I expect because of the type of cloud defusing the harsher late afternoon light. I shot this one at Port Fairy on Victoria's West Coast. (739)

FULL OF ROCKS
Breamlea, Australia
Thursday 10 October 2013
Many of Australia's beaches are pristine sandy stretches used for the leisure of swimmers, fishermen and surfers, then there is this beach, full of rocks and small pools of water. It mightn't be as useful as the sandy beaches but I think it still makes a good picture! (738)

CAN YOU SEE OVER THE REEDS?
Lake of Menteth, Scotland
Wednesday 9 October 2013
I've been sitting here a little while trying to think what to say about this photo. I'm a bit blank but I keep trying to raise my head to look over the reeds & at the beautiful Lake of Menteth, silly really with a 2D photo! (737)

CAUGHT THE TOP OF THE CLIFF
Point Addis, Australia
Tuesday 8 October 2013
Most people know that I'm a morning person and love the solitude of this beautiful time of day, but this one is a late afternoon shot. The sunset caught the top of the cliff and the waves while leaving a shadow in the foreground and I love the colour in the clouds too. (736)

WET PIER
Portarlington, Australia

STONEMAN'S BOOKROOM
Castlemaine, Australia
Monday 7 October 2013
If old buildings (old by Australian standards!) excite you, then a trip to Castlemaine is well worth the trouble. This one on the corner in Castlemaine's main street is typical of the buildings you can see and typifies many of the small country towns that were born during the gold rush period of the mid 1800's. DISTANT REFLECTIONS

GLASSY WATER
Canberra, Australia
Tuesday 1 October 2013
The National Museum of Australia sits on a small peninsular in Lake Burley Griffin in the heart of Canberra. It is a modern and colourful building and in the background of this shot is the communications tower on Black Mountain, both of which are reflected in the glassy waters of the lake. (729)
